Mirabito Swings To Fight Muscular Dystrophy

Two hundred and thirty four golfers….two of the area’s finest golf courses….and one day of competition yielded a small victory in the fight against Muscular Dystrophy, this past June.

The 2009 edition of the Mirabito Golf Classic tournament helped raise $114,180 in support of the MDA during the single day event held on June 4th. The Mirabito Golf Classic has been held every year since 1990.

“Long ago, our family made supporting MDA a long-term priority,” said Mirabito CEO, Joe Mirabito. “As you sit at the tournament or at one of the other events we participate in and listen to those who have been stricken with Muscular Dystrophy – and hear what they have to go through to live their lives, it just makes you drive harder to work on their behalf.”

To date, Mirabito has raised $795,029 through its tournaments, but it’s not the only outlet utilized in support of MDA. Throughout the year, Mirabito’s Quickway and Convenience Express Stores offer the familiar MDA Shamrock for sale.

This year, Shamrock sales exceeded $50,300 and since 2000, Mirabito has been responsible for Shamrock sales of $251, 581.

Over the last 19 years, Mirabito has helped raise nearly two million dollars for the MDA.

MDA is a national voluntary health agency dedicated to conquering more than 40 diseases that affect a million Americans of all ages. MDA combats muscle diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive medical and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
