Binghamton, NY – Today, Mirabito Philanthropy, Inc., in conjunction with Mirabito Energy Products, donates $50,000 to the Central and Upstate New York Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) as a result of the 26th Annual Mirabito Golf Classic held in June. Mirabito has donated over $1.2 million to the MDA over the past 26 years.
MDA is the world’s leading nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and other neuromuscular diseases. The money is used to fund worldwide research; provide comprehensive health care services and support to MDA families nationwide; and to rally communities to fight back through advocacy, fundraising and local engagement.
On Monday, September 19th, the FDA approved Sarepta Therapeutics’ exon skipping drug, Eteplirsen, which will slow the progression of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). It is the first drug to be approved for DMD.
“We have a long and proud history of support for the MDA and are so pleased to hear of the recent progress in research and treatment,” said Lindsay Meehan, Tournament Chair. “We are very fortunate to have the support of vendor partners, owners, employees and customers of Mirabito Energy that make it possible for us to raise money, year after year.”
The tournament raised over $170,000 for MDA and other local charities and hosted 275 golfers at Drumlins Country Club in Syracuse, NY. Major Sponsors of this year’s tournament included: McLane, F.W. Webb, NBT-Mang Insurance, Citgo, The Bonadio Group and R.E. Michel Company.
