Mirabito changes the company name Miragas, Inc. to Mirabito Gas & Electric, Inc.

Mirabito merges with Mang Insurance and establishes Granite Capital Holdings, Inc. (The names “Mirabito” and “Mang” are retained for marketing purposes.)

The company acquires Palmer Oil in Walton, N.Y and Korchak Oil in Binghamton, NY.

Mirabito establishes Miragas, Inc., to sell natural gas and electricity.

The company sells the Vestal, N.Y., terminal to CITGO Petroleum.

Mirabito establishes the Propane Division of Mirabito Fuel Group.

The company sells Golden Valley Sports Camp and the Chenango Asphalt plant.

Mirabito holds the first annual Mirabito golf tournament at the Genegantslet Golf Club in Greene, NY. Proceeds from the tournament benefited the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).

Mirabito purchases Oneonta Oil & Fuel and Jiffy Stop convenience stores. The acquisition doubles the number of convenience stores owned by the company.

In 1986, the second generation sold the company to six members of the third generation, dubbed the “Pepsi Generation”: Thomas Mirabito, Sr.’s sons Thomas, Jr. and Joseph; Rosario Mirabito’s sons Vincent and Ross; Angelo Mirabito’s son, Michael.

Mirabito builds a new bulk oil plant in the Sidney Industrial Park, a new office complex on Grand Street in Sidney, and purchases Norwich Oil Company.

Fire destroys the bulk oil plant on Cartwright Avenue in Sidney. Mirabito’s lost not only the storage facility, which was completely destroyed, but also a transport truck and four tank wagons. Ultimately, though, the fact that no lives were lost was cause for somber thankfulness.

A major acquisition for the company came in 1983 with the purchase of Savory Oil in Vestal, NY. Savory Oil included a Chevron Oil Company terminal with direct access by pipeline to the Chevron Refinery in New Jersey and a storage capacity of six million gallons. Mirabito purchases their first convenience store in Oxford, N.Y., and selects the name Quickway Food Stores to be their retail moniker.

The company acquires Pickwick Oil Company in Bainbridge, NY.
