What Do You Know About Lake Luzerne

In 1796, the British Crown issued a colonial land grant called the Queensbury Patent to encourage subjects to settle in the Adirondack foothills. Quakers established the town of Queensbury soon after, and in 1792, the town of Fairfield split off from it. In 1808, this community was renamed to Luzerne, after the French soldier Anne-César de la Luzerne, who aided Revolutionary troops and later served as the French Minister in the U.S.

Our town’s name was changed to Lake Luzerne in 1963.
